WASUDEV Expresses Gratitude to FAO Liberia for Inclusion in Regional Food Systems and Nutrition Workshop

  • April 18, 2026

Women in Agriculture for Sustainable Development (WASUDEV) extends sincere thanks and appreciation to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Liberia for providing the organization with the opportunity to participate in the Sub-Regional Awareness Workshop on the CFS Voluntary Guidelines on Food Systems and Nutrition.

The workshop served as an important platform for engagement, learning, and collaboration among key stakeholders working to improve food security, nutrition, and sustainable agricultural systems across the region.

Strengthening Food Systems Through Policy and Action

The CFS Voluntary Guidelines on Food Systems and Nutrition are a comprehensive set of recommendations designed to help governments, institutions, and development partners align policies, laws, and investments to effectively address hunger and malnutrition through a holistic food systems approach.

These guidelines recognize that food security and nutrition challenges cannot be solved through one sector alone. Instead, they encourage stronger coordination across key sectors such as:

  • Agriculture
  • Health
  • Education
  • Trade
  • Environment
  • Social Protection

By promoting policy coherence, the guidelines support the creation of sustainable food systems that improve the availability, accessibility, affordability, and consumption of healthy diets for all people.

A Global Framework for Better Nutrition

The document was officially launched by the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) in February 2021 during its 47th Plenary Session. Since then, it has become an important global reference point for countries seeking practical strategies to transform food systems and tackle malnutrition in all its forms.

For Liberia and the wider region, the implementation of these guidelines presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen national food systems, empower farmers, improve nutrition outcomes, and build resilience in vulnerable communities.

WASUDEV’s Commitment

As an organization dedicated to empowering women in agriculture and promoting sustainable development, WASUDEV recognizes the direct connection between women’s leadership, food production, and household nutrition.

Participation in the workshop reinforces the organization’s commitment to advocating for inclusive food systems where women farmers, rural communities, and vulnerable populations are fully represented in policy discussions and development planning.

WASUDEV looks forward to working closely with government institutions, international partners, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to support the effective implementation of these important guidelines in Liberia.

Through collective action, stronger partnerships, and inclusive strategies, Liberia can move closer to a future free from hunger and malnutrition while creating sustainable opportunities for all.

Appreciation to FAO Liberia

WASUDEV once again extends heartfelt gratitude to FAO Liberia for this valuable opportunity and for its continued efforts in promoting food security, agricultural development, and nutrition advancement throughout Liberia.
