(EWECSAB) POWER project

WASUDEV is currently implementing the Enhancing Women’s Economic Empowerment through Climate Smart Agri-business (EWECSAB) under the POWER project supported by Kvinna Till Kvinna. This project is contributing to outcome on women’s economic empowerment for 100 women in Montserrado and Margibi Counties. The project seeks to increase women’s income to secure their livelihoods, create wealth, improve literacy skills, strengthen women’s solidarity and confidence to claim their rights. Through this project, WASUDEV is currently undertaking a 6-month literacy and numeracy training for 100 women and girls in 4 communities in Montserrado and Margibi Counties.

Empowering Women and Girls: Business Training & Village Savings Initiatives 

With support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) under the Enhancing Peace Dividend project, WASUDEV is rolling out business development trainings and setting up Village Savings and Loan Associations for 150 women and youth in 5 communities in Monsterrado county. Project Communities Include:

Economic Livelihood for Rural
Women and Girls project

WASUDEV has implemented other projects such as the Economic Livelihood for Rural Women and Girls project, the Triumph Garden Project, conducted Food security and nutrition dialogues, hosted community nutrition trainings, and celebrated international Days coupled with many other light activities. The Economic Livelihood for Rural Women and Girls project benefitted a total of 150 persons (130f/20m). This intervention improved beneficiaries’ access to finance and sustainable access to nutritional food for rural women, girls, boys and men. This project put in efforts to support women farmers in regenerative
agriculture practices while also strongly sensitizing them on the importance of consuming nutritional food.

Through this project, 10 acres of land were cultivated by women groups from the intervention counties. Crop cultivated included beans, corn, cucumber, cassava, pepper and other exotic crops. As part of the same economic empowerment, WASUDEV established 4 women Farmers’ cooperatives (Village Saving & Networks. Each group comprising 25 women cumulatively reached a total of 100 women and girls in rural communities in Bong, Margibi and Montserrado Counties respectively.

The Triumph Garden Project

WASUDEV also implemented the Triumph Garden Project an initiative of the government of Liberia as part of promoting accessible and affordable nutritious food for poor urban dwellers. This project was implemented in Mount Barclay Community, Montserrado County.
In this project, WASUDEV worked with 30 women who have their mini gardens producing Cucumber, corn, pepper, and okra. This project ensured families had community gardens available were freshly harvested affordable food. The women produced and generated Forty Thousand Liberian Dollars (45,000LRD) from the garden project. The proceeds were used to
settle family needs which cover cost of children school fees, hospital bills and feeding for the family.

 

Mother’s Basket Project (MBP)

Moreover, WASUDEV supported 25 women mostly single mothers, via the Mother’s Basket (MBP). These women received seed support to cultivate their local garden with aim of ensuring access to fresh food produced from their gardens. They also received training in nutrition.
